Unclean!
Leviticus 13: 45 -46
“Now the leper on whom the sore is, his clothes shall be torn and his head bare; and he shall cover his mustache, and cry, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’ 46 He shall be unclean. All the days he has the sore he shall be unclean. He is unclean, and he shall [a]dwell alone; his dwelling shall be outside the camp.”
Can you imagine living like this? Every day you are losing pieces of your body. The disease is so contagious that you have been ostracized from your family and can no longer live within the city limits. What a sad existence! Even those of us who have had to quarantine because of Covid 19 or some other illness might have experienced the same type of isolation.
But leprosy was symbolic of another issue: sin. Sin can separate us from family, friends, and loved ones. More importantly, it separates us from God.
What can wash away this sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
