In the book of Proverbs, wisdom is often measured not just by what we do, but by what we say. Our words carry immense weight—they have the power to tear down or to build up, to wound or to heal. Proverbs 10:19 and 21 (NKJV) reminds us:
19 "In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise... 21 The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom."
Restraining the lips in a noisy world.
How easily words slip out when we are frustrated, rushed, or surrounded by the endless chatter of the world. In the multitude of words, sin is rarely absent. It takes a deliberate, Spirit-led effort to pause, to think, and to hold our tongue.
There is so much temptation to speak out of our own emotions rather than His grace. Yet, even in our weakness, we can thank Him for being faithful through it all.
Feeding many through righteousness.
When God takes control of our speech, our words transform from empty noise into spiritual nourishment. The lips of the righteous do not just talk; they feed many. They offer comfort to the grieving, encouragement to the weary, and truth to the lost.
But we know this cannot happen through our own eloquence or human effort. It is only by His grace.
Holy Spirit, use us for Your glory today. Guard our mouths, shape our speech, and let every word we speak draw others closer to the heart of the Father. Thank You, Father, for Jesus, who is our ultimate wisdom and our eternal salvation!
