That Your Faith Should Not Fail

Luke 22: 31 - 34

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

31 [a]And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”

33 But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”

34 Then He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”

Please know, the enemy does not like us.  He wants us to fail miserably when it comes to fulfilling the will of God in our lives.  Here Jesus gives us a glimpse into the workings of the enemy that we can’t normally see.  Jesus tells Peter, “Satan has asked for you , that he may sift you as wheat.”  I would like to point out that Satan had to ask for permission to attack Peter.  Wow! That’s an interesting thought!

I love this next part! Jesus says, “But I have prayed fro you, that your faith should not fail…” Hallelujah!  Then Jesus gives Peter a powerful form of encouragement! He says, “and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”

So often we, like Peter, overestimate our strength.  Peter responds, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”  In today’s language Peter would say, “Lord, I got this!” Then Jesus tells Peter how weak he really is. “I tell you , Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”  Now that’s a sobering thought!

How much do you really love Jesus?
