Luke 13:1 -5
13 There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”
Here, a group of people told Jesus about some Galileans who were brutally murdered at the hands of Pilate. Jesus saw inside the heart of this group. He knew they were comparing themselves to these Galileans, trying to prove that they were somehow better. ‘After all’, they thought, ‘these Galileans must have been awful sinners if God allowed them to be murdered in such a horrible way.’ Jesus explains through multiple parables that the Galileans were not necessarily worse sinners than anyone else. He said, “I tell you, unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”
Please know that we can’t make ourselves better. We can only get better through Jesus. It’s “not of works lest any man should boast.” Salvation is a gift from God. If you haven’t received this gift please repent! Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and ask Him to make you better.
