Hearts Wide Open

2 Corinthians 6:11 - 12

11 O Corinthians! [a]We have spoken openly to you, our heart is wide open. 12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections.

Paul the apostle, led by the Holy Spirit, chips away at the hypocrisy in the Corinthian church.  Like the Corinthians, we often make excuses about why we won’t do something. This is especially true when it comes to things like dying to ourselves, or doing the will of our Heavenly Father.

One tactic we use is to blame others.  We say, “If that person hadn’t done ______, then I could be a better Christian.” We also blame things on race, education, political propensities… the list goes on.

Here in this scripture the truth is laid bare. “You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections.”

Father, please help us to stop making excuses. Help us to own up to our mistakes and failures.  Then help us to repent and follow You.
