Draw Near to God

James 4:8

8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

As James hears from the Holy Spirit, he reveals steps for getting to know the Lord in a deeper and more meaningful way. The first step is to draw near to God.  I believe this is the step so many people miss.  There is some effort in getting to know Jehovah.  He desires for us to draw near to Him in faith. Hebrews tells us that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. His reward is that He will draw near to us. Hallelujah!

The second step is to cleanse our hands and purify our hearts.  In these days of Covid 19 this scripture should shine with revelation!  In order to keep germs from growing we must wash our hands.  My watch can tell when I’m washing my hands and gives me a timer so that I can wash them effectively!  If only our watches could help us with our unholy thoughts and choices! As we get closer to the Lord we become more attuned to His voice and submit to His will.

When these 2 actions come together we overcome our double-minded ways and look more like Christ.  What a wonderful God we serve!
