Luke 18: 19 -21
19 Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.”
21 He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”
This section of scripture gives us insight into the heart of Christ. We often say that “blood is thicker than water”, but Jesus seems to think a little differently about the matter.
In this passage, Jesus is teaching a crowd of people when his mother and brothers approach trying to get to him. Someone notices and cries out (paraphrasing) “Hey Jesus, your people are here!” What does Jesus say in response? “ My mother and my brothers are those people who hear and obey God’s message.” In a sense, Christians do share blood, but it’s the blood of Christ.
The question I leave with you today is, “Are you in God’s family?”
